Thermocouples & probes
Industrial Thermocouples and Temperature Probes
Implementing a robust power monitoring strategy allows for the early detection of motor failures, transformer inefficiencies, and power quality issues before they lead to costly downtime. These components are designed for seamless integration into motor control centers, switchgear, and automation panels, providing high accuracy sensing and reliable switching capabilities.

Temperature measurement is a fundamental requirement in industrial thermal processing, HVAC systems, and manufacturing automation. Selecting the appropriate thermocouple or probe involves evaluating the operating temperature range, atmospheric conditions, and the mechanical requirements of the installation site. Precision in temperature sensing is critical for maintaining process control, ensuring product quality, and protecting high value equipment from thermal damage. Our inventory provides a robust selection of temperature sensors designed to meet international standards for accuracy and reliability in demanding environments.
For engineering and procurement specialists, the modular nature of our temperature sensing line allows for the integration of sensors into diverse control architectures, including PID controllers, PLCs, and data logging systems. Each sensor type is optimized for specific heat transfer methods, whether through conduction, convection, or radiation.
Engineering and Procurement Specifications
When specifying a thermocouple or probe, technical personnel must identify the following parameters:
- Thermocouple Type: Select the calibration type (J, K, T, E, N, R, S, or B) based on the required temperature range and atmospheric compatibility.
- Sheath Material: Choose a material (e.g., 316 Stainless Steel, Inconel 600, or Ceramic) that can withstand the chemical and physical stresses of the process.
- Junction Type: Specify grounded junctions for faster response times or ungrounded junctions to prevent electrical interference and ground loops.
- Lead Wire Insulation: Ensure the lead wire can withstand the ambient temperature near the measurement point to prevent short circuits.

Custom Measurement Sensors
Many industrial applications involve unique geometries, specialized mounting requirements, or extreme environmental factors that standard sensors cannot accommodate. Custom measurement sensors are engineered to specific technical drawings, providing tailored solutions for proprietary machinery. These sensors can be specified with unique sheath materials such as Inconel or specialized ceramic coatings to resist chemical corrosion or high pressure environments.
Wire Probes
Wire probes consist of two dissimilar metals joined at a sensing junction, typically insulated with materials like PFA, fiberglass, or Kapton. These probes offer the fastest response times due to their low thermal mass. They are ideal for applications where space is limited or where a flexible sensor is required to reach internal components of a machine. Wire probes are commonly utilized in laboratory testing, electronic component monitoring, and HVAC duct diagnostics.
Air Probes
Air probes are specifically designed to measure the temperature of gases and ambient air. These sensors often feature a perforated or shielded tip to allow for maximum airflow over the sensing element while protecting it from physical impact. They are essential for monitoring environmental chambers, industrial drying ovens, and HVAC return air systems. The design ensures that the sensor reaches thermal equilibrium quickly with the surrounding atmosphere.
Needle Probes
Needle probes feature a sharpened, small diameter stainless steel sheath designed for insertion into soft or semi solid materials. These are frequently used in food processing, chemical compounding, and rubber vulcanization processes. The pointed tip allows for internal temperature verification without causing significant structural damage to the material being tested. They are available in various lengths and diameters to suit different penetration depths.
Surface Probes
Surface probes are engineered to measure the temperature of flat or curved solid surfaces through direct contact. To ensure accuracy, these sensors often utilize a spring loaded or high contact area sensing tip to minimize the effects of ambient air temperature on the reading. They are vital for monitoring motor housing temperatures, heat sink efficiency, and plate heat exchangers. High temperature handles are typically integrated to ensure operator safety during manual measurements.
Accessories - Thermo-Electra
High quality installation accessories are necessary to maintain the integrity of the thermocouple signal. Our line of Thermo Electra accessories includes specialized connectors, extension wires, and compression fittings. These components are manufactured to maintain the specific thermoelectric properties of the thermocouple type, preventing the introduction of cold junction errors or signal attenuation. Proper shielding and strain relief accessories ensure long term reliability in high vibration industrial settings.
Thermocouples up to 1300 deg C / 1800 deg C
High temperature thermocouples are manufactured using noble metals or specialized alloys capable of withstanding extreme thermal stress without melting or drifting in accuracy. Type R, S, and B thermocouples are commonly employed for temperatures up to 1800 degrees Celsius, while Type K and N are used for ranges up to 1300 degrees Celsius. These sensors are encased in high purity ceramic primary and secondary protection tubes to prevent contamination from furnace atmospheres.
Thermocouples with Connection Head
Connection head thermocouples feature a rugged metal or plastic housing at the cold junction end. This head protects the electrical terminals from dust, moisture, and mechanical damage. It also facilitates the use of ceramic terminal blocks or integrated 4 to 20mA transmitters. This configuration is the industry standard for permanent installations in refineries, power plants, and chemical processing facilities where sensors must be wired into a centralized control room via conduit.
General Purpose Probes
General purpose probes provide a versatile solution for standard liquid and gas temperature measurements. These sensors usually feature a stainless steel sheath and a standard transition joint to a lead wire. They are suitable for a wide variety of applications including water treatment, industrial cleaning tanks, and general machinery monitoring. Their balanced design provides a reliable combination of durability, response time, and cost effectiveness for non specialized thermal environments.
